A growling wolf bearing its teeth.

After a sell out run at the Finborough Theatre of the Caryl Churchill world premiere: The Hospital at the Time of the Revolution, UrgentTheatre return to Southwark Playhouse with an extraordinary selection of short plays by leading contemporary voice Joel Horwood.
A rare chance to see the range and virtuosity of Joel Horwood in one showing.

In Fairytale of New York, it’s Christmas Day; Tom is watching Home Alone 2: Lost In New York, “not even the good one.”… We’re left questioning: do the lonely bring it on themselves?

Ever find yourself wishing you could mute your colleagues with some hidden truths about your darker exploits? Everything I’ve Ever Done Wrong (Amplified) is a painful and glorious confession in the name of love.

And what about when the man who ruined your life is the one who assesses you at the Job centre? Find out when power station cleaner Charlie List confronts old schoolmate Fran Parker after all this time in The Dim …”He’s back, Dim. Fran Parker’s back. He destroyed me. Before he came, I was like- I was the king!

Finally, even if life, or that one precious love, has sped past your eyes, in Polly Brown it is never too late for the one that got away…

The Press on Joel Horwood

“There is no doubting the vividness of the writing or Horwood’s startling ability to turn a killer phrase. Laced through with sadness and music, his story is bleak but layered with tenderness.” Lyn Gardner, The Guardian on I Love Peterborough

Joel won a Cameron Mackintosh Award for his first play: Mikey the Pikey followed by a Fringe First Award for Food in 2006. He has since had his work performed at The Bush, West Yorkshire Playhouse, HighTide, Northampton Royal and Derngate, Bristol Old Vic, the Lyric Hammersmith, Edinburgh’s Traverse theatre, Latitute and the New Wolsey theatre, Ipswich.

The production is dedicated to the life of the actor Tom Hare, know professionally as Tommy Vine, who lived every minute to the full.

‘Don’t think, just let it flow.’
