Following a SOLD OUT Edinburgh Festival Fringe run, as winners of the Underbelly and New Diorama Untapped Award, hit-show Blanket Ban transfers to Southwark Playhouse Borough.

A rallying cry on behalf of the women of Malta who have been denied life saving abortions.

“Sometimes I’m afraid of this play.”

Malta: Catholic kitsch, golden sun, deep blue sea, Eurovision – and a blanket ban on abortion.

Propelled by three years of interviews with anonymous contributors and their own lived experience, actors and activists Marta and Davinia interrogate Malta’s restrictions on the freedom of women.

What does it mean for your country to implement trailblazing social justice laws, but have some of the world’s strictest abortion laws?

After the performance of Blanket Ban on Wednesday 10 May, activists and creators of Blanket Ban, Davinia Hamilton and Marta Vella, will be joined by Peyvand Sadeghian and Isabella Leung to discuss the journeys, joys and challenges of making work based on current political realities and personal lived experience. They will also talk about the importance of making political theatre which invites the audience to get involved and take action on pertinent issues. This will be a short informal conversation, chaired by Lara Parmiani, with opportunities for questions from audiences.
