Come and join Southwark Playhouse this Autumn for a series of workshops exclusively for our friends and neighbours in Elephant and Castle.
Saturday 20th October: Puppetry for beginners with Little Angel Theatre
You’ve seen the Muppets. You might have been to watch War Horse. This beginners’ crash course in puppetry will see you discover the essential skills needed to bring puppets and objects alive with movement and emotion. Led by a professional puppeteer from Little Angel Theatre, the UK’s home of puppetry.
Saturday 27th October: The Southwark Playhouse Scratch Choir with Sam Chaplin and The Choir with No Name
It’s been proven that singing makes you feel good – it distracts you from all the nonsense in life and helps you to build up your confidence and abilities. Whether you sing in a choir already, or just in the shower, this fun workshop led by choir director Sam Chaplin, will have you singing in harmony in no time, whether you think you can hold a note or not!
Saturday 3rd November: Walworth Stories with John Whelan and the People’s Company
Did you know that the first five giraffes to arrive in the UK came to Walworth? Or that Charlie Chaplin grew up just down the road from Elephant and Castle? Come and explore this and other fascinating facts about our local area in an interactive workshop with writer and director John Whelan, where you’ll have the chance to bring to life stories and characters from the past.
Saturday 10th November: Improvised Comedy with Victoria Hogg
Want to try some improvised comedy? Uncover your funny side and polish up your confidence in an afternoon of laughter and games. It’s not stand-up and you don’t have to be funny: the laughs come in the moment from the situation. Using the key improv principle of ‘Yes, And’, you’ll remember how to play again. Improv comedy show host Victoria Hogg is an experienced teacher who specialises in safe space for new players. www.ddgimprov.com.
For ages 16 and over.
All workshops take place at Southwark Playhouse’s current home at 77 – 85 Newington Causeway on Saturday afternoons from 3.00 – 5.00pm.
They are free to take part in, but you do need to register, as places are limited. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to book a place.
All ages welcome, except where stated. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
