The nearest tube station is Elephant & Castle (Northern Line and Bakerloo Line)
For Southwark Playhouse Borough, take the London Southbank University exit. It is an estimated 5-minute walk from this exit to the theatre.
Step-free access
Elephant & Castle is a partially step-free station. Step-free access is only available on southbound Northern line services.
Step-free access to northbound Northern line services can be found at Borough station, an estimated 8-minute walk from Southwark Playhouse Borough.
For Southwark Playhouse Borough, the nearest bus stops are:
- Elephant & Castle / Newington Causeway (Routes 35, 133, 343, 344, 468, and C10)
- Elephant & Castle / London Road (Routes 155, 171, 363)
It is an estimated 5-minute walk between Elephant & Castle Train Station (Thameslink) and Southwark Playhouse Borough.
We do not recommend attempting to access the theatre via car. There is very minimal parking in the neighbouring area.
Please note you cannot park on Newington Causeway, however there is a drop-off point just outside Southwark Playhouse Borough.

Our Spaces
There is ground level step free access to our Box Office, bar, bathrooms and auditoriums at Southwark Playhouse Borough.
Entrance
There is a small step (10cm in height) to access the entrance to Southwark Playhouse Borough. Please note on your access registration form or let our team know directly if you require use of a ramp to access the building.
Box Office
Directly in front of you as you enter the building is our Box Office. The Box Office desk is approximately 70cm tall. Here you can speak to a member of staff to find out more about the venue or book a show. When you attend a performance, this is where your ticket will be scanned.
Bar and Seating
From Box Office, turn left and go through a set of double doors to reach our bar area, where you can order drinks and snacks and purchase any available merchandise. The bar is approximately 110cm in height. The bar area has a variety of tall stool seating (76cm in height) and dining chairs of various styles (approximately 45cm in height).
If you require assistance in getting you drinks to your table or your seat in the auditorium, please do ask a member of staff. Staff can be identified by their red lanyards with the Southwark Playhouse logo.
Toilets
We have gender-inclusive cubicle toilets. We also have one accessible toilet, which uses the radar key scheme for entry. The accessible toilet cubicle is large enough for a wheelchair user and companion to be inside at the same time and contains a full-length red cord and grab rails.
We do not have a changing places facility.
The Little
The Little Auditorium is our smallest performance space, seating up to 138 people, depending on its seating configuration.
Seating Dimensions
The Little contains bench seating with back rests. Each individual space on the bench is 41cm x 41cm.
Where Do I Sit?
Seating in The Little auditorium is unallocated. However, if you would like to reserve a specific seat due to access requirements, our Box Office team are happy to assist.
The seating layout can vary between productions. For most productions, row A is at the same level as the playing space, and each row behind it is one additional step up (steps are 15cm in height). Please note, sitting in row A does not guarantee extra legroom.
Wheelchair Spaces
Two wheelchair spaces are available in the front row for all performances in The Little. These spaces are available to book online or over the phone once you have signed up to our free Access Membership.
If you cannot see a vacant wheelchair space on the seating plan when trying to book for your preferred performance, please contact us directly.
Wheelchair spaces are released to the general public 24 hours before each performance, if they have not yet been sold. If you wish to book the wheelchair space within this time frame, please contact the box office. However, we are unable to guarantee availability.
If you will be transferring out of your wheelchair into a theatre seat, then we advise booking a seat in the front row. Our front of house staff will take care of your wheelchair in the bar area.

The Large
The Large Auditorium is our larger performance space at Southwark Playhouse Borough, seating up to 198 people, depending on its seating configuration.
Seating Dimensions
The Large contains individual chairs (42cm x 40cm). The chairs do not have arm rests.
Where Do I Sit?
Seating in The Large auditorium is reserved. Your seat number will appear on your ticket.
The seating layout can vary between productions. For most productions, row A is at the same level as the playing space, and each row behind it is one additional step up (steps are 15cm in height).
Please note, sitting in row A does not guarantee extra legroom.

Rehearsal Spaces
We have two rehearsal spaces available for hire, The Tiny and The Dinky.
There is no step free access to either of these spaces. There are 22 steps between the Box Office and The Tiny and 40 steps between the Box Office and The Dinky.
