Imagine That presents
by William Shakespeare
A re-imagining of William Shakespeare’s classic with an orginal score by Paul Thompson.
In a new future world things are very different from today. The world economy has collapsed into feudal societies and military dictatorships. Dozens of “Kings” claim ownership over small areas of land, place names passed on to keep history alive, unrelated to their previous geographical locations. Old countries and ties are forgotten, washed away by the high water levels of the now melted polar ice caps. Cities that once filled the horizon are now submerged, leaving only small islands of high ground.
At the behest of Prospero, an exiled former politician, a magical storm is conjured. A ship is caught in the tempest and its occupants cast away on a mysterious isle. A land of dilapidated buildings, detritus and desolation; a concrete jungle inhabited only by Prospero, his daughter Miranda, a spirit named Ariel and the creature Caliban. Some of the marooned ship’s castaways begin searching for their King Alonzo’s son, fearing him lost in the storm. However he is alive and well on another part of the island, searching for his father, whom he believes to be dead. Meanwhile two noblemen, who have been marooned begin plotting against their leader, scheming to overthrow him, as they previously did Prospero.
Now Prospero can set his scheme in motion to regain his status, and to right the wrongs once done to him. A magical tale of losing and finding, forgiveness and redemption.
