Little Pieces of Gold
“Twenty years ago the view that social class no longer mattered was widely held across the political spectrum. Looking across the landscape of Britain today these views look quaint indeed. Motifs of class and inequality proliferate. The familiar pictures of Boris Johnson, George Osborne and David Cameron swaggering at Oxford University’s Bullingdon Club symbolise the languid power of a privileged elite. “Poverty porn” has become a staple across the broadcast media. The issue of inequality is perhaps the defining question of our time.” The Guardian, Oct 2015
Little Pieces of Gold presents The Class Ceiling: eight ten minute plays by Felix O’Brien, Fiona Doyle, Jessica Sian, Tessa Hart, Sarah Hehir, Jaki McCarrick, Sam Steiner and Ben Worth. Asked to respond to a selection of iconic texts with issues of social class at their heart, these award winning playwrights have written powerful, personal responses to Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, Faraway and Top Girls by Caryl Churchill, Oleanna by David Mamet, Posh by Laura Wade, Madame Bovary by Flaubert, Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy and That Face by Polly Stenham.
Little Pieces of Gold is a new writing company that was established in 2010 to develop new writing from emerging and more established playwrights, to facilitate long term creative collaborations and to provide a platform for new voices, theatre makers and performers.
