Southwark Playhouse is able to offer a limited number of work experience placements throughout the year for young people aged 14 – 18 in full-time education and with an interest in pursuing a career in theatre. Placements usually last for one week only and mainly revolve around the administrative activities of the company but can involve other tasks backstage and in our theatres. We aim to provide an insight into the many roles involved in working in the theatre.
Important Information: Please note that our Work Experience scheme is fully booked for the whole of 2016, so applications for 2017 are now being accepted.
In addition, from 2017 we will only be able to offer one placement per term.
To apply simply download and complete the application form below and send it to David Workman, our Youth & Community Director, at firstname.lastname@example.org or you can post a copy to Work Experience, Southwark Playhouse, 77 – 85 Newington Causeway, London SE1 6BD.
If you are offered a place the usual working week is Monday to Friday (10:30 – 18:30) with a 1 hour lunch break, plus one evening in which you work as volunteer usher. Placements are dependent on Southwark Playhouse’s schedule and candidate availability.
All work experience is unpaid, with no expenses. This is a work experience placement and will not provide students with training or guidance in performing arts.
The scheme is open to all, although we prioritise secondary school students from our local community here in Southwark. We expect all of prospective work experience students to have seen at least one of our productions.
